Mayor’s Son Found Dead

This article is based on a fictional scenario.

Carl Lomas, the Mayor’s 18 year old son, was found dead at about 2pm yesterday in Kooroogool, Victoria.

The body was found by two children from St Hughs School.

Senior Constable Douglas said there did not appear to be any evidence of “foul play”.

“It’s so hard,” Mrs Lomas said.  “People expect you to get on with it but it just can’t be like that.”

On average, 2,461 suicides happen each year according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Reach Out has said suicide remains the leading cause of death among young Australians.

There has been a rising concern for mental health in the Kooroogool community.

Last year, Suicide Prevention Australia  called for the Government to support effective re-employment to reduce Australia’s suicide rate.

“New international research demonstrates a strong association between unemployment, job insecurity and suicide,” CEO of Suicide Prevention Australia Sue Murray said.
