A 34 year-old Mildura man charged with the smash that killed six teenagers faced court yesterday.

He was charged with six counts of culpable driving causing death, four counts of negligently causing serious injury, one count of failing to stop and one of failing to render assistance.

He fled the scene after the crash.

The man’s nine-year-old daughter and four-year-old son were in the car at the time of the collision, according to a police fact sheet.

Senior Sergeant Mick Talbot said the children’s position in the car at the time of the crash was the “crux” of the investigation.
