Losing Indigenous languages

Almost half of the 6,900 languages spoken around the world today are endangered. The rate of loss is accelerating, with up to 90% of the world’s languages expected to be gone by the end of the century.

But many are trying to change this.

Dr Greg Dickson, a linguist at the University of Queensland, is one of those people. He has worked in language centres in regional and remote Northern Territory.

Reporter Rochelle Kirkham spoke to Dr Dickson during Panorama today.

First aired on SYN 90.7FM from 4.30pm on Tuesday October 11, 2016.
